Apple iPhone 6 release date and price – Leaks and Rumors

At this moment, there’s not a lot we know about the upcoming iPhone 6 from Apple, other than the fact that people are extremely curious to see what Apple can come up with, given that the competition has revealed this year’s top guns. The HTC One M8 is releasing world-wide next year, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 is already becoming available in select stores. So what’s Apple going to offer us with the iPhone 6? Will it be enough to keep up at a competitive level?
Let’s start off with the design of the iPhone 6. As you probably know, the iPhone 6 is going to be getting a new number, 6 to be more precise. While there are new version of the iPhone 5 coming out, Apple has announced that it will be releasing an entirely new model. The iPhone 6 is going to feature a new design. Speaking about the design, we are going to see something like the iPad Touch’s 5th generation. We expect to see a full aluminium finish, instead of just an aluminium band like in the case of the iPhone 5S.
iPhone 6 Display
The brand new design will be thinner and lighter than the current generation iPhone 5S. We are also expecting to see a Sapphire Glass as well as a larger display. We are not entirely sure about the display size yet but the the rumors suggest it might be somewhere around 4.7 inch. That should satisfy most users, as it’s an intermediate size – big enough, but not excessively big. There have been reports that Apple is also working on releasing a larger iPhone 6, so there will be alternatives to the 4.7 inch model for those of you who prefer larger phones. A 5.2 inch or a 5.5 inch model are possibilities, and by introducing these, Apple wants the iPhone 6 to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note line.

iPhone 6 – thinner and lighter
Basically, in all iPhone models Apple uses IPS LED – backlit LCDs, In contrast, you probably know that Samsung or other manufacturers use a different technology, something like AMOLED, which is an OLED technology. LCD and OLED are very different technologies. For the iPhone 6 we don’t actually expect Apple switching to OLED, just because IPS LCD’s provide some of the best color accuracy on the market, where as on the other hand OLED displays provide better power management and more vibrant colors. With the iPhone 6, we’ll be most likely seeing another IPS LED – backlit LCD screen.
iPhone 6 Display Resolution
All the iPhone models from the iPhone 4 and up, as well as all of the iPad Touch models have the exact same PPI ( pixel density ) of 326 PPI. So although with the iPhone 5 Apple has increased both the screen size and the resolution, the PPI or the concentration of the pixels remained the same. We have 3 possible resolutions for the iPhone 6.
  • The first one is a 720 p display thats 1280×720 which will give the iPhone 312 ppi, but honestly i don’t see Apple going back or reducing the PPI; this is the least likely possibility
  • With the second option, we’ll have a 1080 p display. So a 1080p, 4.7 inch display will probably translate to 469 PPI, which is basically the around same as a HTC One. Although this is more plausible than the first option, however Apple said that everything higher than the 300 ppi threshold is basically invisible to the naked eye, so it’s unlikely Apple will be bumping the ppi that high.
  • A much likely possibility is something like a 1600×900 resolution, which will translate to 386 ppi. This is the best bet at this time, and it’s the most likely option for the iPhone 6.
Specs of the iPhone 6
Apple_A8
In terms of CPU power, expect Apple to  utilize the new A8 processor in the iPhone 6. Apple’s previous A7 CPU was the first 64 bit CPU utilized by the company in a tablet or phone, so expect the A8 to be a 64 bit-based CPU as well, with an bumped up clock speed. It’s not entirely far-fetched to think about a Quad Core CPU either, considering the competition has been using these for a quite some time now. A Quad Core clocked at 1.5 Ghz or a Dual Core clocked at 1.8 Ghz are all reasonable bets. Also expect a better integration with the Apple M8 co-processor. .
In terms of RAM capacity, it’s likely the iPhone 6 will come with 2 GB of Ram, despite the fact that previous iPhones and iPads have been shipped with only 1 GB of RAM. Internal storage will most likely be set at 32 GB or 64 GB, without the possibility of external expansion. In terms of the battery and battery-life, we’ll be seeing some definite upgrades, especially since Apple is going to increase the display size. The increased general size of the iPhone 6 will allow the company to insert a larger, more powerful battery. As we know, Apple uses extremely small batteries compared to the competition, and while the company manages to squeeze out every ounce of potential, the phones generally suffer from short battery life. So expect a 2000 mAh battery in the iPhone 6, with Wireless Charging being a reasonable possibility. There is a possibility that Apple will in fact use it’s gyroscope technology for a Movement-based charging, however, this method would only charge the battery for 5-8%.
Apple is also working on a technology that allows them to place Solar Cells into the display. What this basically means is that you’ll have the option to charge your phone through the display, by using not only natural light, but artificial light as well.
iPhone 6 Camera
There are several possible scenarios when it comes to the iPhone 6′s camera. It’s possible that Apple will keep the existing 8 MP sensor and simply upgrade the aperture from F 2.2 to F 1.8, which translates into a better performance in low-light conditions. The second option would be to upgrade the CMOS sensor completely, increasing it from 8 MP to 10 or 12 megapixels. If this is the case we expect the sensor to be developed by Sony, because Sony makes some of the best sensors on the planet, at least when it comes to mobile sensors. So we can expect for a F 1.8 aperture, True Tone Flash and Optical Image Stabilization. In terms of video recording, Apple might actually introduce 4K video recording into the iPhone 6,  something that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or Sony Xperia Z2 are already providing. Apple will almost surely increase resolution for Slow Motion Video recording on the iPhone 6, from 720p to 1080p.
iPhone 6 Features
iwatch-Apple
The iPhone 6 is going to come preinstalled with Apple’s new operating system, the iOS 8. iOS 8 is going to be introduced in June 2014 at WWDC. iOS 8 is going to focus mainly on health and fitness and is also going to feature Apple’s new health & fitness app, which is going to be called Health-Book. In terms of features, expect Apple to integrate the iPhone 6 with the iWatch through the new Health-Book app. The iWatch is expected to be released sometime during Q2-Q3 2014 (which means summer-fall).
iPhone 6 Release Date & Price
The new iPhone 6 will most likely be placed at around the same mark as the iPhone 5S. The phone will most likely come out in September, despite previous iPhone launches taking place in June. At this point, Apple just doesn’t seem ready to be pushing out the new phone onto the market, a market that, come April, will be seriously assaulted by the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. The entry-level iPhone 6 models will probably be priced at around the $650-700 mark carrier-free, with the premium models (with increased storage) costing upwards of $800.

Would Apple dare charge its iPhone customers even more for its already pricey gadgets?
One analyst thinks the answer is yes and that it will happen this year.
Pacific Crest analyst Andy Hargreaves said the tech giant’s share price could soar above $600 a share this year based on the “potential for a higher-priced iPhone 6.”
How much higher? The iPhone 6 could cost $299 with a wireless contract when it’s launched later this year, the analyst said.
That’s $100 above the iPhone 5S, which is currently Apple’s top-of-the-line mobile phone.
But $100 extra will be no problem for Apple’s “relatively rich” customers, Hargreaves said.
“Apple customers are relatively insensitive to price, so a higher price is not likely to dissuade potential iPhone 6 consumers who are attracted to the device’s features,” he said in his research report.
Indeed, Wall Street has pointed to similarly confusing economics when it comes to sagging sales of Apple’s 5C. The 5C, which was essentially a repackaged iPhone 5 with a colorful exterior, cost $100 versus $200 for the 5S. However, customers have been turning to the 5S, which comes with a fingerprint sensor.
Hargreaves upgraded Apple’s stock to an “outperform” from a “sector perform” rating and established a $635 price target, suggesting the stock will increase close to 20 percent from its current price of $536.
The analyst said Apple will launch a new 4.7-inch iPhone in September or October, and he dismissed talk of a phone with a bigger screen.
Some Apple watchers have said iPhone lovers can expect two new phones this year, including one with a 4.7-inch screen, which is already larger than the iPhone 5, and one with a whopping 5.7-inch screen.
The products could be revealed as early as June, some reports have said. But Hargreaves disagrees, saying he doesn’t expect Apple to diverge from its typical fall launch.

iPhone 6 predictions: Isn't Apple too secretive for us to know anything?

Second-guessing Apple is traditionally a mug's game, but the legendarily secretive company has eased up under Tim Cook, and almost all the announcements at the 10 September press event had been correctly predicted beforehand. (Admittedly, plenty of predictions had been made that didn't come true, but pretty much everything that was announced came as no surprise to Apple rumour followers.)
Particularly accurate were the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s rumours, many of which were completely true, including new iPhone colours and new features of the iPhones. Even the fingerprint sensor was discussed in the lead up to the event.
As we discuss elsewhere, Apple isn't quite as secretive as it used to be. (Compare today's Apple, where the software and hardware design teams work hand in hand under Sir Jony Ive's supervision, to the crazy days leading up the first iPhone's launch, when half the team didn't even know what the interface would look like).

iPhone 6 release date

New iPhone 6 release date: When will the iPhone 6 come out?

The iPhone line-up gets refreshed roughly once a year. The iPhone 6 is therefore likely to launch in 2014, around a year later than the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, which were unveiled on 10 September 2013 and hit the shelves on 20 September.
However, some analysts and Apple watchers have suggested that Apple may decide to launch a new iPhone earlier in the year, perhaps at the company's annual WWDC event in June. This is certainly a possibility - Apple released the first four generations of iPhone in June, before moving to an September/October launch schedule.
In February during MWC in Barcelona, Apple grabbed headlines when an analyst claimed that the new iPhone 6 will launch in July. Mizuho Securities analyst Abhey Lamba believes that Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 6 in July. "The next generation phones could come out in July this year. The earlier launch will be helpful for Apple as it will ensure significant availability and distribution of the new device during the holiday season," he said.
Lamba also reiterates claims that Apple could be looking to launch multiple models of the new iPhone, with screen sizes ranging from 4.7in to 5.5in (more on this on page 2).
The calls for Apple to release its new iPhone 6 earlier than the usual September time frame are also coming from Sony's mobile chief, of all people.
Sony mobile chief and European president Pierre Perron told The Inquirer: Apple is "missing out" by only releasing yearly iPhone refreshes, instead of flooding the market with incremental updates every few months. Perron believes that people will always want the most up to date phone and technology moves more rapidly than a yearly cycle allows.
"There is a cycle in the chipset market which can give us the opportunity to launch a new product more often than once a year,” Perron said.
Forbes contributor Chuck Jones has also suggested that Apple shouldn't wait until September to announce the iPhone 6, because competition means the company is losing sales to competitors with bigger-screened smartphones.
According to research firm ISI, we're about to see "the 'mother lode' of all Apple upgrade cycles" when Apple releases two new iPhones with bigger screens this year. Reiterating rumours mentioned later in this article, the note from ISI suggests that these two new iPhones will come with 4.7in and 5.5in displays.
"'Large-screen envy' is prevalent among the iPhone installed base and we believe a 5in form-factor iPhone would spark a massive upgrade cycle as well as many 'Android switchers' returning back to the iPhone," the note read, suggesting the iPhone launch could be sooner rather than later.
Should the July launch rumours be accurate, Apple may show the new iPhone 6 at WWDC, the worldwide developers conference that the company holds in June.
Calls for Apple to move from its yearly cycle of iPhone refreshes are nothing new, in November 2013, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said that she expects to see multiple iPhone refreshes every year from now on, which could mean an iPhone 6 early this year followed by an iPhone 6s later in 2014.
Back in December 2013, DigiTimes reported that Apple's 2014 will see a new iPhone with a bigger screen launch in May. There has even been speculation that the iPhone 6 could arrive in March 2014.
So, to recap: the iPhone 6 could launch in March, May, June, July, September or October... helpful, right? We think that the June and September options are most plausible based on Apple's launch history.
Either way, an Apple fan and blogger in Japan was keen to be first in line for the iPhone 6, so actually turned up outside an Apple Store in Ginza to wait for the new iPhone to launch. However, his wait was short-lived, as he soon discovered he might haveto wait for seven months, an idea that seems to have put him off. I expect we'll see him return a bit nearer the release date!

Apple's iOS 8 is hot topic in among iPhone, iPad and iPod users right now. In this article, we bring you release date speculation, the latest rumours about iOS 8 and leaked images and mockups of the next version of Apple's mobile operating system. Read on to find out more.

Welcome to our iOS 8 release date, rumours and leaked images article. Here, we'll bring you everything we know about iOS 8, Apple's next iOS operating system for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. This includes speculation about the iOS 8 release date, rumours about the new features that may arrive with iOS 8, and leaked images and mockups of iOS 8 as we see them. We'll update this article frequently, so check back regularly for the latest iOS 8 rumours.
Updated 13 March with new leaked iOS 8 app screenshots
The release of iOS 7 caused a buzz among the Apple community in 2013, as it came with a radical redesign, bringing a new look and feel to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software. Now that the excitement has died down a little, users are looking to the future, imagining what could be in store for the next version of iOS, presumably called iOS 8 if Apple's naming convention continues.
We're certainly excited about 2014 as a whole for Apple, not least because CEO Tim Cook has revealed on multiple occassions that the company has "big plans" that it believes we are going to love.
Speculation about iOS 8 - which is believed to be codenamed "Okemo" after a ski resort in Vermont - skyrocketed as February 2014 arrived, with reports that Apple is working on a 'Healthbook' app for the new operating system, which could change mobile health and fitness tracking for good. Then, on 13 March, screenshots showing what is allegedly our first look at the app icons for Healthbook, Preview, TextEdit and Tips emerged.
Read on to find out more about the latest iOS 8 rumours and to see the leaked images.

iOS 8 rumours: Healthbook

In March, this image was leaked on Weibo and allegedly shows new Healthbook, Preview, TextEdit and Tips app icons, as spotted by 9To5Mac:

We assume that the Preview and TextEdit apps have the same functionality as their Mac counterparts, perhaps expanding iCloud compatibility. There's some confusion about what the Tips app is for though (presumably to provide tips... but what for?). Read on for more information about Healthbook.
Rumours have been circulating the web about a new health application that could arrive with iOS 8 and work with the widely anticipated iWatch, Apple's rumoured venture into wearable tech.
Apple plans to introduce a health and fitness tracking application with iOS 8 later this year, according to sources cited in a 9To5Mac report. This application is likely to work closely with Apple's rumoured iWatch, which the sources say is "well into development."
The sources claim that the iOS 8 app is codenamed 'Healthbook' and will be used to collect data such as how many steps you've taken, how many calories you've burned and the distance you've walked. The app will also allegedly be used to monitor blood pressure, hydration levels, heart rate and more. In addition to the monitoring and tracking features, the report claims Apple's Healthbook app will offer users the ability to set medication reminders.
The rumours of a Healthbook app arrive alongside reports that Apple executives have been meeting with medical officials including the Food and Drug Administration. Apple has also hired several people from the medical field. Most recently, Apple hired former chief medical officer at pulse oximeter firm Masimo Corporation Michael O'Reilly.
Perhaps the strongest evidence to support the theory that Apple is looking into introducing a health app is the M7 chip it introduced with its latest iPhone. The M7 chip measures motion data, enables the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass, and, as pointed out by Apple when the chip was announced, enables a new generation of health and fitness apps.

iOS 8 rumours: New Touch ID features

During Apple's earnings call for the first quarter of 2014, CEO Tim Cook spoke about Apple's Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which was introduced in September 2013 with the iPhone 5s.
"The mobile payments area in general is one that we've been intrigued with - that was one of the thoughts behind Touch ID," he said. "But we're not limiting ourselves to that. I don't have anything specific to announce today, but you can tell by looking at the demographics of our customers and the amount of commerce that goes through iOS devices versus the competition that it's a big opportunity on the platform."
Cook's comments suggest that we should look out for new services that work with the Touch ID in future versions of iOS.

iOS 8 rumours: More new features

There are several additional new features that we'd like to see in iOS 8, and we've listed them (and the rumours surrounding them) in our iOS 8 wishlist below.

iOS 8 rumours: Notifications

One of the areas of iOS 7 that we expect to get addressed in iOS 8 is Notifications. We think that it feels a bit clumsy at the moment. For example, replying to an iMessage requires the launching of the app, rather than a simple dialogue box as in OS X's Notification Centre.
We'd like to see a universal control to clear all of the past notifications at once. In iOS 7, the user has to manually delete each app's entries.
We love Sam Beckett's interactive Notifications concept, as shown below. It's a perfect example of what we'd like to see in iOS 8 when it comes to the Notification Centre.
We'd also like to be able to quickly unsubscribe from app Notifications that we've accidently signed up to within the Notification Centre.
Apple made an interesting acquisition in 2013, for a small software house called Cue. Cue specialises in smart assistant programming. With Google Now becoming an increasingly impressive service on Android, it's possible that Cue could be how Apple will catch up. It could help Apple add smarter push notifications, providing us with the information we need when we need it.

iOS 8 rumours: Siri

We're sure that Apple will bring some new features to Siri, the voice-activated virtual assistant, with iOS 8. It looks like we'll be getting more voices within Siri in the UK. We currently only have access to a male voice, but the iOS 7.1 beta suggests we'll be getting a female voice for Siri, possibly even before iOS 8 comes out.
Find out more about iOS 7.1 here.

iOS 8 rumours: Control Centre

We loved the addition of Control Centre with iOS 7, and we think Apple could take it even further in iOS 8. Perhaps Apple will give users more control over the Control Centre, by letting them decide which apps they want easy access to.

iOS 8 rumours: Multiple accounts

A sought after iOS feature from Apple is the ability to add additional accounts to iPads and iPhones. For iPads that are shared among a family, this would allow each member to have their own private iOS account, particularly useful for parents with young children for better parental control.

iOS 8 rumours: Multitasking

Apple made some changes to Multitasking in iOS 7, but we'd like to see these changes go even further.
We particularly like Sam Beckett's Split Screen Multitasking concept. Split screen is something we'd love to see in iOS 8, as it would increase productivity significantly and is a feature we're constantly craving while using our iPad.
We'd also like to be able to close all of the open apps at once.

iOS 8 rumours: FaceTime

FaceTime hasn't seen much love from Apple in recent updates, apart from the addition of FaceTime Audio. We'd like to see Apple introduce the ability to call multiple people at once in FaceTime, for group calls. Skype already offers the ability to conduct group calls, so the addition of the feature for FaceTime would be a big plus for Apple users.

iOS 8 rumours: Default apps

We've been saying this for years, but we'd like to delete the annoying Apple default apps that we're not interested in or never use. It's unlikely that Apple will grant this wish, though.

iOS 8 rumours: Subscription service

An interesting idea shared with us by a colleague is the introduction of an iOS iTunes Store and/or App Store subscription service. The service could allow users to pay a set fee per month to get access to unlimited films, TV, books, apps and more (think Netflix or LoveFilm). We think this would be a brilliant idea that we could imagine many Apple users signing up to if it's priced right. It would be a huge blow for competitors, though.

iOS 8 rumours: Default third-party browser

Many of our colleagues use Apple Macs, but almost none of them use Safari as their default web browser; most favour Chrome or Firefox instead. So why does Safari maintain such a stranglehold on iOS? Because you still can't make a third-party browser the default. We'd love to see Apple add the ability to change the default browser to a third-party one in iOS 8.

iOS 8 rumours: Customised autocorrect

Since before iOS 7, we've been asking for the ability to turn off autocorrect on an app-by-app basis, to prevent those embarrassing errors that we so often see.

iOS 8 rumours: Battery life

Battery life issues plague iOS users. We asked our readers what they'd like to see in iOS 8, expecting whizzy features to be the most common answers, but it was battery life that took the top spot.
One of the ways Apple could help preserve battery life is to add a battery emergency feature to devices. How about a set of customisable actions set to kick in when your iOS device reaches 20 per cent power? Instead of just popping up with the warning, the device could be programmed to automatically lower the brightness, switch off 3G, Bluetooth and location services, and generally do everything in its power to stay alive.

iOS 8 rumours: iTunes Radio in the UK?

Since its release back in September 2013, UK Apple users have been waiting for iTunes Radio, a new service from Apple that allows you to stream any song available on iTunes. It's possible that we'll see iTunes Radio launch in the UK before iOS 8, though, with some rumours pointing to an early 2014 launch.
Find out more in our When will iTunes Radio come out in the UK article.

When will iOS 8 be released?

Apple has traditionally used its Worldwide Developers Conference to unveil new versions of iOS, so we expect that tradition to continue this year. WWDC is usually held in June, but we'll update you as soon as we find out specific dates for the conference.
There's even speculation that Apple may use this year's WWDC to unveil the iPhone 6.
While we expect iOS 8 to be shown off for the first time in June, it's unlikely to be released to the public until the next generation iPhone comes out, probably in September. Between June and September, iOS 8 is likely to be in beta form for developers to test and begin working on their apps ahead of the public release.

iOS 8 leaked images

There are no leaked images of iOS 8 yet, but as soon as we see them, we'll share them with you here. We'll also be keeping an eye out for convincing mockups that spark the imagination, such as the two concept videos shown earlier in this article.
Designer Nico Achkasov has come up with a concept he calls 'iOS 8 Infinity', in which he's redesigned the iOS icons to follow a grid system and specific colour palette. He created the new icons after many Apple users said they dislike the designs Apple has come up with for the icons.
Nico has taken away the gradients in many of Apple's icons and replaced them with the shine effect Apple recently ditched, though he's made sure to keep the icons 'flat'. “index of” + “ios 8″ + “release date ios 8 concept” -html -htm -php
